Architect Raine Karp has designed some of the most monumental buildings in Estonia. The film lets Raine’s mathematics of life be heard and takes us on a journey into the architect’s world of thought, space and creation. Tallinn Linnahall, the National Library of Estonia, the Postimaja post office building and nearly three hundred more – behind all of them stands one architect who does not consider himself an artist. Karp sees himself first and foremost as an engineer: he does not make art, he solves problems. He has never founded an office and works alone. Karp’s urban landmarks are also opened up in the film by the culture and architecture experts Karen Jagodin, Miia Masso, Mait Väljas and Tiit Nurklik. Alongside present-day footage of the spaces, the film also moves through the past, drawing on the archive the architect himself filmed and photographed. The film is directed by Keiti Väliste, with cinematography by Mattias Veermets, editing by Johanna Maria Vilgats, script editing by Kai Väärtnõu, sound direction by Kauri Lemberg, music by Markus Robam, graphic design by Kaspar Sellin, produced by Johanna Maria Tamm (Paulson) and made by Stellar Film.
