The historic part of the Tallinn Open School building dates from the 1950s. In 2024-2025 it was reconstructed into a contemporary basic school. The architecture of the earlier building shows recognisable features of Stalinist architecture: a symmetrical composition, a representative main facade and an ordered formal language derived from classicism. The reconstruction project was prepared by Sammas Arhitektuuribüroo and the construction work was carried out by Ramm Ehitus. The building was renewed both inside and out, and new volume was added to the existing structure. The larger changes concerned the school’s shared areas: a hall and atrium section were added and more spacious circulation, rest and gathering spaces were created. A shelter was also built in the basement. In 2026 Tallinn Open School moved into the building; its approach to learning emphasises multiculturalism, project-based learning and the development of social skills.
